Why Nosework?

Do you ever feel like walks just aren't enough for your Springer Spaniel? Do you yearn for a deeper connection and a calmer, more fulfilling relationship with your dog?

At Keen Nose Bureau, we believe that nosework is the answer. This enriching activity taps into your Springer's natural instincts, providing mental and physical stimulation that reduces stress and promotes well-being.

Here's how nosework can benefit you and your Springer:

For your Springer Spaniel: Increased confidence, reduced anxiety, improved focus, and a happier, more balanced life.

For you: A deeper bond with your dog, a sense of shared purpose, and the joy of watching your Springer flourish.

We believe that nosework is more than just an activity, it's a journey of discovery, connection, and transformation for both dogs and their humans.

My journey to becoming a nosework specialist has been a winding and rewarding one, shaped by my deep love for Springer Spaniels and a fascination with the power of scent.

It all began over fifteen years ago when I welcomed my first Springer, Zuri, into my life. Zuri's challenges, with separation anxiety sparked a passion in me to understand canine behaviour on a deeper level. Through a combination of providing her with more freedom, fulfilling activities like gundog training, and a move to a farm, I witnessed first-hand the transformative impact of a holistic approach to dog well-being.

During my time on the farm, I had the privilege of breeding and raising 138 Springer Spaniel puppies. Observing them in a more natural environment provided invaluable insights into their behaviour and development. I learned the importance of early socialisation, the bond between mother and pups, and the value of allowing dogs to express their innate instincts.

Alongside raising and training gundogs, I pursued formal education  in pet dog training and applied animal ethology, culminating in a level 5 qualification from COAPE and mentorship from world leading experts. The knowledge, combined with my hands-on experience, solidified my belief in a gentle, positive, and science-led approach to training.

In early 2018, I embarked on a new adventure in the world of detection dog handling. Qualifying with my first explosives detection dog and becoming Bloomberg's first female and first non-military handler was a defining moment in my career. Since then, I've achieved a 100% with my dog Juno in our NCTAS-P police accreditation and worked with high profile clients including touring with a world-famous artist.

Throughout my journey, the power of nosework has remained a constant source of inspiration. Watching my dogs flourish through scent detection, I realised the profound impact it can have on their confidence, focus, and overall well-being. It's with thanks to Zuri, the matriarch of our pack, and her legacy, that I've developed a unique training approach that prioritises impulse control and seamlessly blends elements of gundog training, detection dog work, canine behaviour, and scientific understanding.

Today, I'm passionate about sharing the transformative power of nosework with other Springer Spaniel owners and professional handlers. Through Keen Nose Bureau, I offer personalised coaching, and a science-backed approach to training that helps dogs, and their humans build deeper bonds, find calm and confidence, and experience the joy of scent.
